Every day I'm studying.

We had a good week here in Gaston! I'll tell ya about it!

Last Monday we were able to work all of prime time (6-9) We walked around a neighborhood and talked to people outside/ knocked on some doors. I remembered how much I love talking to people!

Tuesday- We both weren't feeling well.

Wednesday- We had a great lesson with a part member family. The wife is a member and has recently started coming back to church. They have two kids. It went well. At church yesterday the wife told us how happy she was that her husband stayed in the room and listened to us. She said he hasn't ever wanted to meet with any members of the church before. It was the best to see how excited she was. 

Thursday- We had a great lesson with Tiffany. We figured out the best way that she learns and she really opened up. She is progressing along quite nicely. However, due to miss-communication, her ride didn't pick her up for church yesterday. So, we will be doing some damage control later tonight when we see her.

Friday- We had zone conference, which was great! It was mostly focused on the fundamentals of missionary work. We also lowered our yearly mission baptism goal so that it is more realistic. It is actually a motivating goal now. That's the way goals are supposed to be. 

Saturday- We didn't go out to work at all. Sister Orr's back was really bad from sitting all day at zone conference.

Sunday- We went to church and didn't do much else due to Sister Orr's back. We did have dinner with the Carricos though! I love them. They are pretty much our adopted great aunt and uncle. 

So that is the week in a nutshell. You may ask, "Well, Sister Broadbent, what do you do when you're not out working?" That is a very good question. I have read the entire life of the prophets book on Joseph Smith. I gained A LOT more knowledge on church history and Joseph Smith's life from it. I started the one on Brigham Young today. I have read all the ensigns and new eras in our trailor. I have watched the restoration multiple times- also legacy and mountain of the lord. I have studied my patriarchal blessing and Doctirne and Covenants more fully. The best of all- I started Jesus the Christ!

What have I been doing all my life to have taken so long to start reading this book?!

I haven't read that much of it, but I have noticed an increase of the spirit in my heart. It is amazing that just choosing to learn more about the Savior and his life can increase our conviction.

Sister Orr's back problems are a blessing in disguise for me. Otherwise I would never have had enough time to study so much from so many different mediums. 

I am learning more and more from the people that I meet that If we truly and honestly do our best to follow Jesus Christ He will lead us to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Because it is His church here on the Earth again. He wants to bless us and He wants us to be happy. The place we can find those things is in His church. Why would we deny ourselves of true happiness?

Alma 32:27

This has been an interesting week. We will just start with the part that sticks out the most.

Once upon a time, my companion, Sister Orr had bad back problems. We have been going to a chiropractor that is a member in our ward. He is into all natural things- some refer to him as a witch doctor. But most of the things work. So he told Sister Orr a liver cleanse might help. Me being the greatest companion ever did it with her. We drank prune juice and pure grape juice and water ALL day. We decided that in Hell the only thing they have to drink is prune juice and the cheap kind of toilet paper. Yep. That was an experience! We were both so grateful to have two bathrooms in our trailer. It took us a couple days to recover.

Sister Orr's back hasn't been doing much better. That with the whole liver cleanse we haven't been able to work much this week. I did get to go on exchanges with Sister Roundy! That was just what I needed.

We met this lady named Tiffany this week. She is solid. She already knows it is true, which is unlike most of the people in South Carolina I have taught. So that is something new! We are still trying to figure out some important things about her. I'll keep y'all posted. But in the mean time, she is golden.

This week I learned more about how much it is required to act in the gospel of Jesus Christ. We can say it is true all we want, but in order to enjoy the happiness and sweetness of the gospel we actually have to act on what we say. Alma 32: 27 says all we need to do is experiment upon the word- just exercise a particle of faith. So, try it this week. Pick something you know is true, but might be slipping. Maybe prayer, or daily scripture study. Something. Pick it and exercise a particle of faith and work on it. It's okay if it doesn't happen every day when you start, just start! Sooner or later it will happen every day if you keep at it. I know it will make your days and weeks go better. And who doesn't want their days and weeks to go better?! Just try it. :)

Coming at ya live from the SCCM

Hey y'all!

Another week has gone by here in South Carolina.

My new companion is Sister Jessica Orr. She is from Vernal and went to high school with Sister Christensen. Crazy, huh? I'm guessing it is God's subtle way of telling me I need to go to Vernal... ;) She is younger than me both in real life age and mission age. She has been out about six months. So, I get to drive again! Woot, woot!
 
Two random phone calls made my week! First, Sister Titus called me! She is in Columbia working and one of her coworkers is in my ward. That was good to hear her voice! Then some random man who is the Conway ward called us to find another sister missionary. I have no idea how he got our phone number, but Conway is the ward Amanda moved to when I was in Georgetown. I asked him if he knew her and guess what? He has taken her to church a couple times!! It was an answer to my prayers because I was worried she wasn't getting to church or if she even knew anyone in the ward over there. I had no way communicating with her since she is blind and can't read letters and I can't call her. I sent a card to her dad's address, though. It was just really good to know she is being taken care of and is going to church still.
 
Something that stuck out to me this week is the influence that music has on our minds and spirits. Just think of the last three songs you listened to- how did you feel/ what were you thinking? Do you know what the lyrics are saying? I'm not saying you need to listen to church music always. Just encouraging you to evaluate the music you listen to.
 
I will tell y'all about a scripture I enjoy and can teach us all. It is 2 Nephi 2:14. Look it up. Right now! I love it! There is a God. He created the Earth and everything in it- including you! Think of everything in the world. There are cars, rocks, animals, clouds, money, humans, etc. The difference between us and the other things like cars or rocks is that we can act for ourselves. We don't have to wait for somebody else to make decisions for us. When we just sit around and do nothing we are allowing others to act upon us. Don't allow other people to make decisions for you. God gave you the gift to choose and act for yourself. Accept the gift.

The Carrico's have come to church two weeks in a row now! They are a less active family we have been working with. They are super sweet. Sister Orr has celiac disease and is very sensitive to gluten and as soon as Brother Carrico found out he was looking gluten free recipes up on his phone. It was so funny because he struggles with technology, but he was trying so hard. He made her a gluten free chocolate cake. It was pretty good, too!
 
Great news!! Sister Roundy and I are in the same district this transfer! They added our district to theirs because we went back down to two sisters. I just love Sister Roundy so much. This will be her last transfer.
 
This week was full of tender mercies. I am very grateful for them all. I needed them. I love you all! <3 <3 have a good week.
